The Process

Becoming a Composer is not straightforward, nor should it be. The work demands writers who have proven they are ready for it.

Written application
You tell us about your background, your specialism, and why Composed specifically. You submit a short writing sample. This is the first test — not just of your writing, but of how seriously you take the opportunity.

Editorial review By our Editorial Lead
Every application is read personally by our Editorial Lead. Your writing is assessed against the Composed standard — not against other applicants. Either your work is ready or it is not. If it is not, we will tell you why.

Interview With our Editorial Lead
If your writing passes the review you will be invited to interview with our Editorial Lead. This is a direct conversation about your craft, your instincts as a writer, and what you would bring to Composed.

Trial brief
Before any ongoing work is offered you will complete one trial brief. A real piece, reviewed to the same standard as every piece Composed delivers. This is your opportunity to show what you can do with a real moment in front of you. If the work meets the standard, you join the team.
